20/04/2019 Dowlais Vs Ynysybwl Match Report

WRU LEAGUE DIVISION 1 EAST

Dowlais: 47

Ynysybwl: 31

A commendable and all important win for Dowlais this week at home against Ynysybwl. Dowlais began the game offensively powerful and relentless just like last week, immediately making their way to the Ynysybwl line and scoring an early try touched down by Luke Evans and converted by Sion Martin.

Despite this Dowlais slowed for a while after this initial assault, being unable to get past the Ynysybwl line for a long time, eventually conceding a converted try of their own and penalty.

As the first half drew to a close with the score at 10-7 to Ynysybwl, Dowlais sprang back to life in the final minutes, spurred on to leave the first half on a good note and soon returned to their earlier offensive prowess, with Kyle Prosser scoring their second try. Not satisfied with this however, minutes after an interception try from Kristian Owen added further to their lead. Along with both of the recent tries being converted again by Sion Martin, Dowlais ended the first half with a comfortable 21-10 lead.

The start of the second half did anything but slow Dowlais down, scoring three consecutive tries in twenty minutes, two scored by Jake Howard and one by Jack Chambers, with two of the three once again converted by Sion Martin.

A 40-10 lead gave Dowlais more than enough breathing room to negotiate the remaining quarter. Ynysybwl finally put some points on the board in the second half with a converted try of their own, but Dowlais struck back with their seventh and final try of the game, scored again by Kyle Prosser and converted one final time by Sion Martin.

With their bonus point long earned and a 47-17 lead to protect them, Ynysybwl’s following two converted tries did little to faze Dowlais, the gap was already too wide and the game was already won. Final score 47-31 and a bonus point for both teams.

Already rickety in the passing and tackling areas at points, Dowlais’ tremendous attacking more than made up for any faults in other parts of the game this week. Every cog in the attacking machine played their parts perfectly and it became clear early that Ynysybwl had no chance of coping.

With this win it would seem that Dowlais have saved themselves from relegation in style in this second half of the season and can breathe a little easier for their final two games.

This week Dowlais take on Nelson away on Wednesday night in a rearranged game due to the game being abandoned last time out.
