NELSON 21 DOWLAIS 33

 

This was a most entertaing game, Nelson started off at a terrific pace and their backs looked as if they would run Dowlais off their legs. Nelson attacked the Dowlais line continuously but every attack was repulsed by a strong Dowlais defence.

Dowlais entered the home 22 eventually after 15 minutes, and the Dowlais pack wrecked the Nelson scrum and from the resulting drive Kyle Prosser crossed in the corner.

With half time approaching Nelson took the lead with a try under the posts, after some smart handling.

The second half started badly for Dowlais when the Nelson wing picked up a missed pass to cross under the posts for another 7 pointer.

 

But this Dowlais side is made up of a team full of never say die players,they took a scrum on the home 5 meter line and smashed the home eight to claim a penalty try. Dowlais took the lead with a Chris Williams try following another strong scrum , the conversion was by Sion Martin. Nelson took a  2 point lead with another 7 pointer after a chip and chase by their centre.

 

Dowlais was not giving up and after some pulsating passing and movement a move off the training field saw second row Morgan Thomas come into the line at speed to score his first senior try. Sion Martin added the extras. Now with a 5point lead Dowlais went for the jugular and the pack once again forced the home eight backwards and Kyle Prosser crossing for his second try converted by Sion Martin.This was a tremendous win after a great fight back, and making the thoughts of relegation a distance memory. The coaches must be tremendously proud of what this group of players have achieved over the last five undefeated games , because every one at the club are so proud of them, and many many thanks to them for their gigantic efforts, it would be remiss to single out individual players , because everyone has been tremendous.
